bring the safety rules to life

ONLINE CLASS VIA ZOOM

TRAINING SCHEDULE & REGISTER FOR BTSRTL
This 2 hour virtual class is centered around understanding the 4 safety rules through ACTION and repetition. Our goal is to bring the safety rules to LIFE through dry practice and start calling them the LIVING RULES.

This class is will be a different online experience for you! It is very interactive with a focus on drills, context and practical application of the 4 primary safety rules. We need to think about the safety rules in the purpose in which they were intended, and offering ways to practice the application of the contextual decisons necessary for the armed citizen. Let's give more meaning to "keep your finger off the trigger....., safe direction....., be sure of your target....., and treat as loaded....". This class will do just that!

Who is invited:
  • Beginner, intermediate and advanced shooters
  • Firearm instructors
  • No holster draw experience? That's OK! Get some really solid reps in during class
  • Ages 21 and up

Requirements:
  • Know Jeff Cooper's four gun safety rules:
  1. Treat all guns as if they are loaded: Always treat a firearm with the same respect, even if you've checked that it's unloaded.
  2. Never point a gun at anything you aren't willing to destroy: Don't point a gun at yourself or another person.
  3. Keep your finger off the trigger until your sights are on the target: Keep your finger off the trigger and outside the trigger guard until you are ready to shoot.
  4. Be certain of your target and what is around and behind it: Consider what's beyond your target
  • Please CLICK HERE to download an excellent guide (PDF) to a safe dry fire training area. This document is provided by Annette Evans, author of Dry Fire Primer (see below). A safe training area is MANDATORY.
  • Safe gun handling skills
  • Know how to set up your firearm with a visual barrel blocker and a mag insert. PRACTICE this before class
  • Able to follow directions
  • Have an open mind

What to Expect:
  • Brian Hill is the Instructor
  • Shelley Hill is the the virtual assistant instructor
  • Interactive PowerPoint
  • DOING drills aka true application of the safety rules

Safety procedures are a MUST!

RULE 1: All guns are always loaded, per Cooper. There are several times where we don't do that. Examples are during dry practice or maintenance. On the line there should be real physical activity to indicate Rule 1. Safety should have three steps to it which is a triangulation of information that means we have a good orientation towards the task.....
RULE 2: Shooting yourself counts! Where is your muzzle pointed? Are you safe from a negligent discharge? Never muzzle anything you are now willing to destroy, that includes YOU. Present safety rules with movement and discipline. Make the rules come alive by practicing un-holstering (drawing) and holstering while focusing on the muzzle....
RULE 3: Coming soon
RULE 4: Coming soon

The Dry Fire Primer by Annette Evans
Dry fire – practicing without live ammunition – is an essential tool for every gun owner who wants to learn how to handle their firearms more proficiently. It saves time and money while remaining an effective training method whether you are interested in guns for a hobby, for self-defense, or for competition. While there are many books that describe specific dry fire regimens, they don’t always give you the information you need to use them best. That’s where The Dry Fire Primer comes in. It bridges the gap between “I’ve heard of dry fire” and “I’m going to be a dry fire maniac and use it to its greatest potential.” Whether you’re brand-new to dry fire or just feel like you could be getting a bit more out of it, this book is for you.

Special THANK YOU to Annette Evans for providing us with a PDF to download that focuses on the best practices to set up a safe dry practice area. Follow this guide to ensure you have a "sterile" training environment.

Class participants acknowledge that dry practice can be dangerous and life threatening if you do not prepare the area and your firearm properly. There is no room for neglect, mistakes, or cutting corners.
